‘There’s a secret behind the drink
I spoke to 46 spirits lovers about why people love or hate Hennessy Pure White
It’s hard to find, it’s “easy” to drink and everyone has an opinion about it. Let’s see why people talk about Henny Blanco in one way or another.
EDDIE MAISONET, III
I like Hennessy Pure White.
This sentence is controversial to some. For others, the statement reflects their own appreciation for the “brandy”. For some, it is even controversial to call it cognac.
Before I became an enthusiast, newsletter writer, and spirit club founder, I consumed my libations like most people in their 20s: as a social lubricant, as liquid therapy, and as an excuse to interact with friends after 5 p.m. on Friday.
But I can remember the first time I consumed Hennessys Pure White. It was at a house ,party in Oakland hosted by my good friend ,Tiara, who had recently returned from one of those islands in the Caribbean.
What was so memorable about that moment was nots the taste of the brandy – although it was delicious – but the revelation, of the number of bottles she had bought.
Oh I bought a suitcase she said proudly.
Forgiveness? Why do you need 12 bottles of Henny?
“They’re not all for me. I’m keeping 2-3. 2-3 are for some friends who have made inquiries and I’ll probably sell the others for double that. But for you, I’m selling it for the price I paid for it. $40.”
All this was new to me because I didn’t know the product was in such high demand. Still, after a few sips, I began to understand how dangerously delicious “HPW” could be.
For almost a decade I have acquired my fair share of HPW bottles. I also expanded my knowledge and understanding of cognac and other bottled spirits. One thing I understood about Henny Pure White is that the lighter color and lower alcohol content (80) makes it very palatable to the drinker.
These features were immediately disruptive to more experienced players. Enthusiasts whose opinions on ghosts I trust look down on Henny White.
“It’s not even brandy.”

“This is not good brandy.”
“It’s not worth the money.”
This was also new to me, that there was a real backlash against this elusive bottle that was priced comparable to a pair of sneakers on the second hand market. What about my taste buds and sensibilities that don’t match the veterans of the game?
This project was intended to gain more information and perspective on why Hennessy Pure White was so controversial. So I surveyed and interviewed 46 people who were members of various whiskey and spirits clubs across the country. I deliberately chose clubs with high membership, people of color and women. The reason? I don’t think this is a controversial issue among my friends who drink white brandy. (Consensus? Either they seem to like it quite a bit, or they’ve never heard of it.)
Here you will find the results of my interviews and surveys.
(Editor’s note: Clubs I asked for feedback include the Brown Liquor Collective, an organization I founded. Other groups include the Black Bourbon Society, Divine 9 Bourbon and Whiskey Association, and Women Who Whiskey.)
How to get Hennessy Pure White?
Hennessys Pure, White is not sold in the US. Hennessy never gave a reason for this, but the product is widely available in the Caribbean and Central America.
It was a question that I thought would be a question for people.
“Every time I go to the Caribbean, I usually pick up a few bottles,” says Hosea D. “On the cruise ship or on an island.”
More than half of the responses reflected this response to some extent, which is clear. Fish where the fish are, right?
“Everyone in my ecosystems knows, how important Hennessy is to me. It’s more than a brandy it’s a lifestyle asserts DuJuan S. Every time someone travels abroad he or she, checks how many bottles I want to bring back. On average, I drink between 4 and 6 bottles a year.”
This method was my first form of income. It became an art to find friends and family who regularly traveled to Jamaica or enjoyed cruises.
“My husband-to-be gave me a bottle after he came back from his son’s bachelor party,” says Franchesca G. with a laugh. “He told me it was a sign of how much he loved me. He was right.”
How much do, you pay for Hennessy Pure White?
Another softball question, right?s
I presented this to people in two parts. How much would you normally spend compared to the most you’ve ever paid for a bottle? Of these 46 respondents:
Average spend on a bottle: $58.26
Average most spent on a bottle: $74.36
Several respondents reported spending up to $100 on a bottle. If they went to the Caribbean they would buy a bottle…or more.
“Every time I go on a cruise, I bring several bottles,” said Willie P. “Usually a suitcase.”
Others noted that the price of Hennessy Pure White has increased dramatically over the years. Some complained that it was overrated and overrated.
“It’s terrible. It’s an inferior product that doesn’t taste good,” says Elam K. “People only like it because it’s ‘exclusive’ and you have to leave the country to get it, but.” Really, it’s just a waste. “
ve been buying (HPW) since thes the early 2000s but don’t drinks it anymore, because I think black people are tricked into ,buying it as if it’s somehow better sthan Hennessy’s offering in the US,” said Aaron B. by a rum connoisseurs and when I travel to the, Caribbean I look for more genuine rarities, than the scam called Henny Blanco!
Some admitted that
they judge people who are willing to do anything to acquire Hennessy Pure White.

My favorites thing is going to an airport in the Caribbeas, and seeing idiots stand in line for an hour, to overpay for a terrible drink says Elam K. “Just so they can post it on Instagram or Facebook and can turn to other idiots.”click here
